Source North America recommends that fuel site operators create a “birth certificate” for new underground storage tanks and related equipment. The purpose of the birth certificate is to establish a record of important equipment information before the equipment is covered by backfill. (It’s pretty easy to walk out to a dispenser and find the dimensions of the swivel. The same can’t be said of a UST after it is buried underground.)
